This week I begin with an apology to a woman who will most likely not know I have anything to apologize for: Selena Gomez. About four months ago I came on here mad as HELL about Only Murders in The Building and a Variety article that had praised Selena’s performance in the second season of the season. I opened up July 5th’s Issue ranting about never planning to watch the series including the words “it feels like a fluff piece.” Yah I was pissed.
Well, the tables have turned. I ate UP season one of the series this week and it truly is pretty fucking good. It was definitely a little slow to start, but I found myself unable to stay away from the last few episodes of the first season. Also,,,Oscar or whoever Selena’s mans on the show is,,,you know how to reach me.
So beyond me FINALLY starting to have my eyes opened to Only Murders in the Building, Selena has been in the culture lately as her new documentary “My Mind & Me” was released last week on Apple TV (Trailer Here). The reviews seem fantastic and it overall seems like a great documentary - made by the guy behind Madonna’s documentary from 1991, Alek Keshishian. There’s also a fantastic Rolling Stone piece on her that I read every. single. word. of. Long story short, she is my Woman to Stan of Autumn 2022.
Which then caused me to come out in FULL FORCE when people attacked her for saying that Taylor Swift was her only friend in the [music] industry. And by people, I mean specifically Miss Francia Raisa - the girl who donated a kidney to Selena and was in Bring It On, The Secret Life of An American Teenager, and How I Met Your Father.
After seeing this quote from Selena, Francia commented “interesting” and unfollowed her on Instagram. It’s like GIRL come ON, for starters, as someone who actually read the article this quote is from, it’s clear Selena was talking about the music industry, a.k.a something Francia is not in. Secondly, she was CLEARLY talking about the like A-list celeb/pop girlies,,,which last I checked Francia was not one. FINALLY, if y’all were actually friends you would have KNOWN what she meant by this. Like grow UP girl!!! She didn’t mention you among the likes of Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Demi Lovato,,,you’re the only one who is shocked! I have taken a stand on Selena’s side and I know I’m on the right side of history.
The [Music] Industry Lives in Brazil
I feel like October was such a big release month and now,,,here we’re sitting,,,and there’s not really anything worth noting?? Like, we’re almost 10 full days into the month and I cannot think of a release that has impacted me. P!nk released ‘Never Gonna Not Dance Again’ which is only notable because it inspired the greatest song ever to come back into the culture. What part of party don’t YOU underSTAND??
MEANWHILE, Primavera Sound São Paulo took place this weekend and it brought together Lorde, Phoebe, and Charli all in one space. Specifically, it brought Phoebe and Lorde on stage together to sing ‘Stoned at the Nail Salon’ and I thought out loud “god I want to be THERE”. Lorde also performed ‘Bravado’ and AGAIN I thought, “I want to see her perform live!!!!” as if I didn’t see her live twice this year. It also brought Charli XCX to the stage wings for Lorde’s performance of ‘Royals’. Basically, Lorde’s set was the place to be. Also, I’m sorry, but if you don’t watch this video and get absolute CHILLS, reevaluate:

Okay SO, Election Day was the 8th as we all know (and hopefully all participated in). One of the highlights of this day was that we finally had young people running and now winning, a.k.a. Maxwell Alejandro Frost, who won election for the U.S. House in Florida and now becomes the first open Greta Gerwig stan in Congress. Like, this costume is a SLÆ. I will say,,,I wouldn’t self describe as “the First Gen Z member of Congress”, it feels embarrassing to admit that outLOUD, but I guess I’m not the one winning elections!!
Also, allegedly he’s an Ari and Harry Stan, so that’s TASTE!
My Golden Ticket to Paradise
My one (1) dream came true: I saw Ticket to Paradise. It was everything I wanted and more. I feel like I gushed about it so much last week and maybe I should just stop, but truly go and see this movie if you can. The cast, the writing, the directing, it’s all just so good.
It’s simple and basic as a movie, YES, but that’s kind of the beauty. They’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. They’re just making GOOD CINEMA. Also, for George Clooney to be framed as an unlovable man, I was like,,,oh he’s ACTING!!! There were no wasted minutes, the plot movers in the movie were WORKING, and to just know that they put the rom AND the com back in romcom,,,oh I loved it!
It also made me want to travel again so,,,maybe I’ll be gone again soon lmao.
Sexiest Man Alive: Have We Run Out of Men?
Okay so, in preparation for this section I went through every man that’s ever been named People’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ and this is almost like a horror list to be on. The likes of Johnny Depp, Adam Levine, and Brad Pitt currently find themselves as former sexiest men. ALSO most of these guys are basically just same man different font.
Long story short, this year’s alleged ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ is Chris Evans. Anyways, there’s no real hate against Chris Evans, but I’m just kind of like,,,oh of course it was one of the Chris actors. Like,,,are we not tired??? There are OTHER men out there!
INSTEAD, I’m choosing to recognize MY King as crowned by Gawker.

Okay so sadly no new playlist this week! It seems like nobody wants to release new music these days!! That’s okay though because I’m essentially just catching up on everything that I feel like hasn’t been given its TIME in my music. That line is indeed drawn with Midnights, but everything else I’m catching up with!! In other music news I’ve decided to start making a playlist of all the like mid-tier popstars’ Christmas Music so that way you can stream mediocre music all through the holidays and share with your family that “yah Ashnikko actually DOES have a cover of Carol of the Bells”
Thats all for this week! Second week of training at the new job is going well so far and we are just 10 days from me taking a flight BACK to Chicago to celebrate thanksgiving and show everyone that you can make really good vegan and gluten-free food for holidays :) Oh Also, this week I got a taste of Seattle rain for real for real and I did NOT enjoy it one bit, BUT I do still like this city a lot, so I am willing to put up with it (for now).
